This is a work in progress sung by Azusa Pacific University Gospel Choir. The melody of the song came on a Friday night, which happened to be a Good Friday. I was walking in Waikiki to join my church to pray blessings for the tourists. The melody came out of my lips. I took out the cell phone and recorded it. Over the weekend, this melody would keep coming. When I listened to the sound tracks, I realize that it was the same song. Then on Monday morning, when I was standing in line in the Department of Motor Vehicles, a lot of ideas came. Within the ten minutes, I was able to write the lyrics on a piece of napkins. Over the course of time, I tried to find out what this song was. Then an African American brother was kind enough to tell me that this is a spiritual. I made several attempts to have someone arrange the song, or at least shed some lights to me in terms of what to do. Finally when I met Professor Lavonne Seetal, she volunteered to arrange it so to let me experience what it is like to have a song sung by a choir! It is truly a privilege and honor to have someone Godly and talented like her to handle the songs! Praise God!

This is the final version of the song “Give Up the Old Man”. It was showcased in the APU Gospel Choir Concert 2018. Gospel Choir, job well done! Way to go!
